Holiday Decorating Tips for Your Home

Decorating your home for the holidays is an exciting time of the year. Not only are holiday decorations the perfect way to spread holiday cheer in your home, they are also a great opportunity to change up your home interior design. There are many different approaches and styles when it comes to decorating your home for the holidays, however you should take into account which ones will work best with your existing decor and home interior design

The first step to consider when purchasing decorations for the holidays is choosing a color palette and / or holiday pattern. For example, your color palette could be gold and red, and your matching pattern could be buffalo plaid. Alternatively, your color palette could be blue and silver with a winter themed pattern. Be sure to choose colors and patterns that match and compliment each other.

An easy way to determine the correct color theme for your holiday decorations is to gather inspiration from your current home interior design. If you have existing decor or accents in certain colors, incorporating those works best visually. For example, if you have silver decor and items in your home, consider silver ornaments and other complementary colors.

Holiday Sprigs

Sprigs of pine make for a great holiday decor item in any space in our outside of your home. They can dress up little areas of your home and can be used in combination with other decor. In addition, sprigs can be a great addition to your flower arrangements.

Ornaments

Ornaments are a staple holiday decor item. Though they usually belong on Christmas Trees and wreaths, these little balls of holiday cheer can be used for much more. A tall glass vase filled with ornaments can create a stunning centerpiece, and reflect your Christmas Tree color palette to other areas in your home. Easily personalizable, this centerpiece can include other items of your liking, and is easily and quickly assembled.

Poinsettias

These simple yet stunning plants are a staple Christmas decoration that can dress up your home and add a splash of color with little effort. Available in multiple colors, some of these cheerful plants even come with a shimmery overspray during the holidays, and make for the perfect statement in or outside of your home.

Pinecones

Tucking a pinecone between your decor here and there takes little effort yet can enhance your holiday decor. Especially in warmer states with minimal festive foliage, pinecones can help spread holiday cheer in a subtle way.

Fragrant Pomanders

Do you love to come home to a fresh and spiced holiday aroma? Fragrant Pomanders are not just a great decoration accent, but making them can also be a relaxing and fun activity for adults and kids. To make Fragrant Pomanders, simply puncture little holes in an orange with a narrow tool of your choice, and insert cloves into the holes. The combined fragrance will linger in your home for weeks and spread the holiday cheer.

Lights on lights on lights

Lights are on of the most common decorations during the holiday season. String lights can enhance the holiday feel in your home in a multitude of different ways. Whether it is outdoor lights that turn your home into the ultimate holiday.

Advent Calendars

Advent Calendars are not only festive and decorative but also a great way to keep children (and adults) engaged in the holiday spirit until Christmas Day. Advent Calendars can be easily purchased or hand made, and usually contain chocolates, candies or little gifts. When hand made, custom Advent Calendars can be made to match the rest of your home interior design and strung from a garland.

Gift Wraps

Matching your gift wrap to the rest of your decor can make a difference in pulling your holiday decor together and creating a cohesive theme throughout your home interior design. Gifts can be a stunning addition to your ornaments and christmas tree theme. For instance, if your tree ornaments and decor are red and gold, wrapping presents in gold wrapping paper and adding a red bow will pull your overall decor theme together cohesively.

Seasonal Linens

Don’t forget about your bedroom when it comes to holiday decor. Adding accent pillows in holiday patterns, throws and little decor items in your bedroom can spread holiday cheer throughout your house. In addition, it is a great way to switch things up in order to prevent getting tired of your usual design, decor and bedding.

Wreaths

Last but certainly not least, the wreath. Wreaths are a staple holiday decor and can be hung or placed throughout your home. Wreaths can be customized to incorporate your current decor and holiday color palette. Synthetic wreaths can be reused for as many holidays as you prefer, and some can be redecorated and altered if you decide to change your holiday decor up in coming years. If you celebrate the gour days of Advent, synthetic candles can be placed on top of a wreath on any flat surface, and candles can be lit one by one leading up to Christmas Eve.

With the above suggestions and ideas, you should be on a great path to spreading holiday cheer in your home without disrupting your current home interior design. The holidays are a great way to incorporate new colors, patterns, designs and decor.
